Mrs. Dafoe’s class completed a Global Read Aloud, on A Rover’s Story. They mailed postcards to various places in Canada and the US and are receiving 25 postcards from these places in return. What an amazing experience that connected students across North America through literature, while also reviewing Canadian Social Studies curriculum too!
Have you ever wondered what teachers do on Fridays when the students go home? This is one of the most important times in our week, as we gather together for CLC, or Catholic Learning Community. During this time, we look at data such as PAT or Literacy/Numeracy results, set goals for how to support students in developing skills, examine research behind the science of teaching, and work with colleagues to refine our practice and impact student learning. We are blessed to have so many talented and conscientious teachers who seek new ways of understanding challenges and supporting student learning. Some of our teachers present their learning or classroom practices at conferences to share and help others in the profession grow. Today we had guest speaker Carmen Kusiek helping us learn more about Métis history and culture. Thank you, Carmen, for sharing your story and knowledge. It was an excellent presentation! Please pray for us Fridays that this time will be fruitful in supporting our growth and impact the growth of our students.
TRANSPORTATION UPDATE 6:15 am – December 08, 2023 All of our schools are open, but some rural routes might not run due to icy conditions and accumulation of snow. Although conditions appear to have improved, significant snowfall and drifting on rural roads has created unsafe driving conditions. We expect in-town buses to run in all communities, but we anticipate that road conditions might cause some to run late. Even where we initially determine that rural buses can travel, individual bus drivers have the authority to cancel routes if they determine that local conditions may be unsafe. In the case that a route is cancelled, Southland Transportation will contact families. Students and staff driving to school should use extra caution and plan for additional travel time. Please do not leave children unattended at bus stops, and please ensure that they are dressed appropriately for the conditions. CTR will continue to monitor the road conditions throughout the day. For up-to-date transportation information, please click on “Bus Status” on the divisional website at www.redeemer.ab.ca

There are so many support services families can access at St. Mary’s School. Did you know roughly 883 students access our free breakfast and snack program each week! Starting a Social Media Conversation for Parents bridges the gap between parent understanding and kids’ behaviour, and doing everything they can to start a positive social media conversation in homes. Please join us on November 30th @ 7pm in the HTA theatre. Participants in the 2 hour Parenting and Social Media session will learn the scope of online activity of kids in grades 4 to 12, highlighting both the positive and negative. They’ll learn better questions to ask, and come away with tools to lean into conversations about social media use. Tips and guidelines will be provided so parents can make choices that will protect their kids while allowing them to enjoy the positive aspects of social media. Since most kids have exposure to social media, whether through their own use or through the use of those around them, parents will be able to reinforce good choices at home and allow kids to feel more competent, supported, and confident in their social media use.
Thank you to all families for joining us for Parent Teacher Interviews and for nurturing our partnership as we work together to love and serve your children. Just a little reminder that there is no school today. Enjoy your long weekend!
